What types of noise sources can SoundPLAN model?

SoundPLAN can simulate almost all types of environmental and industrial noise sources commonly encountered by engineers and acoustic consultants.

These include:

  • Road traffic noise
  • Railway noise
  • Aircraft noise
  • Industrial and plant noise
  • Indoor noise propagation
  • Various additional environmental sources

The full version of the software, SoundPLANnoise 9.1, includes a range of specialised modules designed for different noise sources and modelling requirements. To make selection easier, these modules are grouped into standard packages, many of which focus on specific types of noise modelling.

For more information, visit the SoundPLANnoise 9.1 page, or contact our team to discuss which package best suits your needs.

What types of projects is SoundPLAN typically used for?

Add your aSoundPLAN is used worldwide for a wide range of environmental and acoustic modelling projects. Typical applications include:

  • Road and railway noise assessments
  • Aircraft and airport noise studies
  • Industrial and factory noise modelling
  • Environmental noise mapping and action planning
  • Development planning and environmental impact assessments
  • Indoor noise propagation and room acoustics studies

The software supports everything from simple investigations to complex acoustic simulations required for regulatory approval processes.

Is SoundPLAN available in 32-bit or 64-bit versions?

SoundPLAN is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

The 64-bit version is recommended as it allows the software to utilise greater system memory and processing power. This results in improved performance when working with larger models and complex simulations.

Which SoundPLAN modules do I need?

SoundPLANnoise 9.1 is a modular system, allowing you to select only the features and functionality required for your specific projects.

Modules are grouped into standard packages to simplify the selection process. These packages cover common modelling requirements while still allowing additional modules to be added if needed.

Our team can help you determine the most appropriate configuration based on your work and modelling requirements.

For more details, visit the SoundPLANnoise 9.1 page or contact us directly.

Can SoundPLAN create noise maps and reports?

Yes. SoundPLAN allows users to generate detailed graphical and tabular outputs for noise assessments.

Typical outputs include:

  • Colour noise contour maps
  • Façade noise level maps
  • Cross-section noise maps
  • Tables of calculated noise levels
  • Professional reports for planning and regulatory submissions

These visual outputs help engineers clearly communicate the results of acoustic assessments.

Can multiple noise sources be analysed in a single project?

Yes. SoundPLAN allows different noise sources to be analysed within the same model.

For example, a project may include:

  • Road traffic noise
  • Railway noise
  • Industrial sources
  • Aircraft noise

Results can then be evaluated individually, combined, or as total noise levels, depending on the requirements of the assessment.

Can SoundPLAN model large or complex projects?

Yes. SoundPLAN is designed to handle complex modelling projects with no practical limits on the number of objects or scenarios within a model.

This allows engineers to simulate large areas, complex infrastructure projects, or multiple development scenarios within a single project file.

What is the difference between SoundPLANnoise and SoundPLANessential?

SoundPLANnoise - The full professional acoustic modelling software designed for detailed environmental noise studies and complex projects.

SoundPLANessential - A more compact and easy-to-learn solution designed for smaller projects or occasional noise assessments.

Both solutions use the same reliable calculation core but are tailored to different user needs.

Can SoundPLAN modules be expanded later?

Yes. Because SoundPLAN is modular, additional modules can be added to your software package at any time.

This allows you to expand the functionality of the software as your modelling requirements grow.

Can I import CAD or GIS data into SoundPLAN?

Yes. SoundPLAN supports the import of several common data formats used in engineering and planning workflows.

Typical supported formats include:

  • DXF files from CAD software such as AutoCAD
  • ESRI Shapefiles from GIS platforms
  • ASCII data tables
  • Various geospatial data sources

This allows existing project data to be imported and used as the basis for acoustic modelling.

Can I use mapping data such as OpenStreetMap or online maps?

Yes. SoundPLAN can integrate online mapping data and georeferenced maps to help build models quickly.

This allows users to import background data such as roads, buildings, and terrain to speed up project setup and modelling.

How do I download and install SoundPLAN – Single License?

A demo version of SoundPLAN can be downloaded directly from the SoundPLAN GmbH website.

We also offer a fully featured trial licence, which provides access to all SoundPLAN modules for 4 weeks. To request a trial licence, simply contact the SoundPLAN UK team.

If you purchase the software:

  1. A HASP hardware licence key and SoundPLAN USB installation drive will be sent to you.
  2. The software can be installed by following the instructions provided on the USB drive.
  3. Your licence will be activated using a unique licence file supplied by our team.

Our support team will assist you throughout the installation and activation process if required.

How do I download and install SoundPLAN – Cloud License?

Before starting, save the license file that we send to you to your computer or network, then:

  • Run the SoundPLAN installation. The Sentinel driver will be installed automatically.
  • Install the license key by clicking on the link with the Identity String.
  • At the end of the SoundPLAN installation you will be asked for your license file. Browse for the license file and confirm.
